Campaign for Better Transport - Safer Routes to School Guide
How to make it easier for kids to walk and cycle to schools Around the country many parents are working with schools and local authorities to make it easier for children to walk and cycle to school. See if your school has school travel plan already. If not, create one! It will take a couple of years but will be enjoyable and rewarding.

The Walk to School Campaign
The Walk to School Campaign asks parents, pupils and teachers to think about their journey to and from school, and the many benefits of making it on foot. Over 50% of children don't walk to school regularly, and more and more pupils are being driven to school in a car. This trend is contributing to reduced physical activity and increased childhood obesity, urban congestion and air pollution.

Crucial Crew Interactive - Game Site
The idea to develop an interactive safety game for children came out of Crucial Crew - a series of workshops held all over the UK for schoolchildren aged 8-11. It may well have a different name in your area, such as Junior Citizen or Citizenship Courses. At these workshops the children are presented with various dangerous or challenging situations - such as a road accident or a gas leak - and they engage in roleplay exercises in how to deal with these situations.
DfT - Let's decide - Walk wise
'Let's Decide Walk Wise' is intended to help make children safer pedestrians. The project aims to give an interesting and exciting experience to young children in early primary years.

Kerbcraft - Child Pedestrian Training Scheme
The Department for Transport Road Safety Division has appointed Transport Consultancy MVA to set up and manage a five year National Pilot Network of Child Pedestrian Training Schemes. The project, a key element in the Government's Road Safety Strategy, 'Tomorrow's Roads: Safer for Everyone' supports selected local authorities in providing local training schemes, with priority being given to children in more deprived areas and those with higher accident rates. The overall aim of the Pilot Network is to demonstrate how effective child pedestrian training schemes may be established and sustained in the longer term.
Junior Road Safety Officers
Junior Road Safety Officers help their local Road Safety Officer to promote road safety issues within the school and the local community. Each primary school is encouraged to appoint two JRSOs from Year 6 and two deputy JRSOs from Year 5. Being a JRSO is a very important job, but it’s also really good fun.
