Advice to parents

The behaviour of young children on the roads is very unpredictable and means that they are constantly at greater risk of being injured in a crash.

Although road safety training and education takes place in the majority of schools in Cardiff and at the Road Safety Centre, parents have an important role to play to protect their children by teaching them basic practical kerbside skills. Parents should also lead by example.

The Road Safety Unit has a number of colourful free publications, which are specifically designed to assist parents/guardians and carers to teach road safety skills to children of all ages.

  • Prepare them for the roads – a guide for teaching YOUR child Road Safety.
  • Get across road safely - two essential guides for parents with children up to the age of 6 years and 7 – 11 years.
  • Teaching children road safety – A guide for parents with children up to the age of 15 years.

If you would like free copies of the above publications please contact the Road Safety Centre.
