School Bus Safety Advice
When you wait for a bus, stand on the pavement well back from the traffic. It is dangerous to play around at bus stops.
National Children's Traffic Club
The Children's Traffic Club helps parents to teach their children how to stay safe when they are out walking, playing or travelling by car.
Walking Bus
The Walking Bus is an alternative way for children and parents to travel to and from school in Cardiff. Staffed by trained parent volunteers, it provides children with regular exercise and the opportunity to develop vital road safety skills as they walk.
Road Safety Near Schools
Traffic congestion and parental parking too close to school entrances can put young children at risk, especially during school run times. In an effort to highlight these dangers to parents and guardians, the Road Safety Centre has produced an informative leaflet called Road Safety Near Schools.
Safer Routes to School
The Council's Local Transport Plan 2000-2016 states that approximately 20% of all peak time traffic involves escort trips, primarily in transporting children to and from school. The Welsh Assembly Government through transport grant funding is targeting this type of travel to reduce traffic congestion around schools and to encourage children and parents to consider walking and cycling more for their own health. Cardiff Council is fully committed to improving safety on the school journey and is working in partnership with a number of schools, local communities and other agencies to progress this important issue.
